Where the 81 system comes from
The 81 numbers trace to the Song-dynasty scholar Cai Shen (蔡沈, style name Jiufeng 九峰), whose writing laid out an 81-number diagram rooted in the He Tu and Lo Shu number maps, where the cosmos begins at one, ends at nine, and returns to one (nine by nine gives 81). In the early 20th century the Japanese onomancer Kumazaki Kenou (熊崎健翁) systematized this tradition into the Five-Grid method of name numerology, and from the 1930s it spread through Taiwan, Hong Kong, and back into Chinese communities, becoming the version printed in the Chinese almanac and reused to read phone, house, and car numbers.
