Sun sign vs Rising sign horoscope: the pro distinction
Most people grow up reading their Sun sign horoscope: “I am a Sagittarius, what does today say for me?” The Sun sign horoscope is real and useful, it tracks the day's broad theme through the archetype of your conscious identity. But there is a second horoscope, often more accurate, that most casual readers never discover: the Rising sign horoscope.
Your Rising sign (the Ascendant) is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment of your birth. It is the cusp of your first house, and in traditional Western astrology the entire house structure of your chart keys off of it.
