⚕️ Critical: This is not medical advice
Medical astrology is a historical symbolic system, a real and well-documented chapter in the history of Western astrology, not medical advice. The classical rules (Manilius, Culpeper, Hellenistic and Renaissance practitioners) are described here for their cultural and reflective interest. CrystalStones.com does NOT recommend timing surgery, medication, fertility decisions, or any other medical care around moon signs. If you are facing a medical decision, talk to a qualified physician. The classical rule is symbolic; your doctor is not.
What is medical astrology?
Medical astrology is the classical doctrine of melothesia, the zodiac mapped to the human body, head-to-feet from Aries to Pisces. It appears in Manilius (1st century CE) and runs through Culpeper (1652). CrystalStones.com publishes it as a historical symbolic system, not as medical guidance.
The doctrine of melothesia
In the classical Western mapping, each zodiac sign governs a region of the body, Aries rules the head, Pisces rules the feet, and the ten signs between them map the body head-to-feet in sequence. The doctrine appears in Manilius's Astronomica (1st century CE), Vettius Valens (2nd century CE), and the Arabic and medieval astrologers; Nicholas Culpeper's The English Physician (1652) is the canonical English-language reference. By Culpeper's time, it was standard practice for an English physician to consider the Moon's sign before bleeding a patient or scheduling a surgical intervention.
We publish this material because it is a real chapter in the history of Western astrology, and because users will encounter it elsewhere on the web in much worse, less-disclaimered forms, sometimes presented as if it were clinical guidance. Selene's framing is uncompromising: this is symbolic, historical, and reflective. It is not medical advice. If you are facing surgery or a serious medical decision, talk to your doctor.

Frequently asked questions
Is medical astrology real medical advice?
NO. Medical astrology is a historical symbolic system, a real and well-documented chapter in the history of Western astrology, not medical advice. CrystalStones.com publishes the classical mapping for cultural and reflective interest. We strongly encourage you to consult qualified medical professionals for any health concern.
Where does this mapping come from?
The doctrine of melothesia (zodiac mapped to body, head-to-feet from Aries to Pisces) appears in Manilius's Astronomica (1st century CE), Vettius Valens (2nd century CE), and runs continuously through Hellenistic, Arabic, medieval European, and Renaissance medical practice. Nicholas Culpeper's The English Physician (1652) is the canonical English-language reference.
Should I time surgery around the Moon's sign?
Classical practitioners did. Modern medicine does not. CrystalStones.com describes the historical rule for its cultural interest; we strongly do not recommend timing medical decisions by lunar transit. Talk to your doctor about surgical timing.
Why do you publish this if it's not medical advice?
Because users will encounter medical astrology elsewhere on the web in much worse, less-disclaimered forms, sometimes presented as if it were clinical. CrystalStones.com publishes the material honestly: as historical symbolic system, not as treatment guidance. Each page reinforces this framing.
Can crystals help with the body region a sign rules?
There is no clinical evidence that crystals treat physical conditions. Many people find that the ritual of slowing down to hold a stone is a pleasant interruption in a busy day. The stone is the focus of the practice, not the medicine.
