What is an eclipse?

An eclipse is the alignment of Sun, Moon, and Earth that produces a shadow on one or the other. In traditional Western astrology (Robert Hand's Planets in Transit, 1976), eclipses fall along the lunar nodes and mark thresholds of fate, six-month windows where the chart asks for a structural shift, not a small adjustment.

For ritual framing of the four 2026 eclipses alongside every full and new moon of the year, see Selene Tides' 2026 Lunations Library. For the chart-cycle context behind eclipse seasons in your late twenties or fifties, see the Saturn Return guide.

About this tool

Calculations use the same astronomical ephemeris data (VSOP87/DE-440) as professional astrology software including Astro.com and Cafe Astrology. Planetary positions are mathematically precise. Interpretations follow traditional Western astrology and are for personal reflection, not predictions of fate.

Eclipse dates and times are calculated using the astronomy-engine library (MIT-licensed, based on VSOP87 theory). Eclipse visibility depends on your geographic location. Astrological interpretations and crystal recommendations are for self-reflection and personal growth.
