What is Life Path compatibility?

Life Path compatibility reads two birth-date numbers together to describe how their tendencies meet. In the Pythagorean tradition every birth date reduces to a digit from 1 to 9, giving 45 possible pairings, each with its own mix of ease and friction.

Before you look up a pairing

  • There are exactly 45 pairings, because order does not matter: 3 with 7 is the same reading as 7 with 3.
  • Of those, 21 are rated Compatible, 20 Mixed and only 4 Challenging. Fewer than one pairing in ten is the difficult kind.
  • Master numbers reduce for pairing: 11 reads as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6. They keep their full meaning on their own Life Path pages.
  • A rating describes where two tendencies pull together or apart. It is not a forecast, and no pairing decides anything.

In the Pythagorean tradition the Life Path is the plainest number in numerology: it comes from the calendar date alone, needs no birth time, and reduces to one digit between 1 and 9. That simplicity is why it became the standard basis for compatibility tables, and also why those tables disagree with one another so often. A chart built on the Expression number reads the name; a Chaldean chart assigns different values to the same letters. These pages hold to one method throughout, so a reading here is at least consistent with itself.

Notice the pattern in the distribution above. Just 4 of the 45pairings are marked Challenging, and the remaining 41 divide almost evenly between Compatible and Mixed. That shape is worth knowing before you look yourself up: the tradition does not sort couples into matches and mismatches, it describes degrees of friction, and the difficult readings are the rare case rather than the common one. If you do not know your number yet, the Life Path calculator reduces your birth date in one step.

All 45, Sorted by How They Meet

Each page covers what the two numbers share, where they pull apart, the crystals traditionally paired with that combination, and practical ground to stand on. Order does not matter, so look up either number first.

The method

How These Readings Are Built, and Where They Stop

Each birth date is summed digit by digit and reduced until one figure remains, the method attributed to the Pythagorean school and carried into modern numerology through writers such as Juno Jordan. The two resulting digits are then read as a pair. Because the Life Path needs only a date, it travels further than most systems: you can run it for someone whose birth time nobody recorded, which astrological synastry cannot do. What it gives up in exchange is granularity. Two people who share a Life Path number are not the same person, and a pairing page describes a tendency between numbers, not a description of anybody in particular.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Life Path compatibility?

Life Path compatibility reads two birth-date numbers together to describe how their tendencies meet. In the Pythagorean tradition each birth date reduces to a single digit from 1 to 9, and the 45 possible pairings each carry a different mix of ease and friction.

How do I find my Life Path number?

Add every digit of your birth date and reduce the total to a single digit. A birth date of 14 March 1990 gives 1+4+3+1+9+9+0 = 27, then 2+7 = 9. The Life Path calculator does the arithmetic and links straight to your pairings.

What happens to master numbers 11, 22 and 33 in a pairing?

They reduce for the purpose of pairing: 11 reads as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6. That is a deliberate methodological choice, because pairing tables built on the reduced digit are the ones the Pythagorean sources describe. Your master number still matters on its own Life Path page, where it is not reduced.

Does a Challenging rating mean a relationship will not work?

No. Of the 45 pairings, 4 are marked Challenging, and the label describes where two sets of tendencies pull in different directions, not an outcome. Numerology describes patterns; it does not decide what two people do with them.

Why do numerology compatibility charts disagree with each other?

Because they compute different things. Some pair the Life Path from the birth date, others the Expression number from the name, and Chaldean numerology assigns different values to letters than Pythagorean does. These pages use the Pythagorean Life Path throughout, which is why a result here can differ from a chart built on another system.

Do I need my partner's exact birth time?

No. The Life Path uses the calendar date only, so no birth time or location is needed. That is one practical difference from astrological synastry, which cannot be calculated properly without a time.
