How do you cleanse crystals with salt water?

In traditional crystal healing, the salt water method works like this: soak crystals in sea salt water for deep energetic purification. It is best for deep cleansing of durable, hard crystals (mohs 6+) that need intensive energy clearing, and takes about 4-12 hours. Many people find this a simple way to reset a stone's energy.

4-12 hours
Deep cleansing of durable

Salt water is the deep-clean of the crystal world, it reaches into energetic layers that gentler methods might not touch. Think of how renewed you feel after swimming in the ocean; salt water does the same for your stones. But this is powerful medicine, and not every crystal can handle it. Knowing which stones can take a salt bath is one of the first things I teach.

Gather

What You'll Need

  • Sea salt or Himalayan pink salt
  • Glass or ceramic bowl
  • Filtered water
The Method

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Dissolve 1-2 tablespoons of sea salt or Himalayan pink salt in a glass or ceramic bowl of cool water.

2

Place your crystal in the salt water. Never use metal or plastic bowls, they can interfere with the cleansing.

3

Leave for 4-12 hours. Overnight is traditional and allows a full energetic cycle.

4

Remove the crystal, rinse thoroughly under cool running water to remove all salt residue.

5

Dry gently and dispose of the salt water, pour it down the drain or onto the earth. Do not reuse.

Timing

When to Use Salt Water

Reserve salt water for crystals that feel particularly heavy, have absorbed a lot of emotional energy, or are new to you (especially from crystal shops where many people have handled them). This is a reset to baseline.

Safety Note

Never use for soft stones (Mohs <6), porous stones, or any crystal containing metals. Salt is abrasive and corrosive to many minerals.

Wisdom

Cassandra's Tips

  • Ocean water is even more powerful if you have access, it carries its own living energy.
  • Always check hardness before salt-water cleansing. If it's below 6 on the Mohs scale, choose another method.
  • Glass bowls are best, they're energetically neutral and easy to dedicate for crystal work.
  • If you're unsure whether a crystal can handle salt water, err on the side of caution and use moonlight instead.
