What Is a Partial Lunar Eclipse?

A partial lunar eclipse occurs when only part of the Moon enters Earth's darkest shadow (the umbra). Part of the Moon appears darkened while the rest remains illuminated.

Eclipses are amplified lunations. For the full 2026 dated lunation library, including the four 2026 eclipses with extended ritual guidance, see Selene's 25-date moon calendar.

โ€œA lunar eclipse in Capricorn releases old definitions of success. The emotional work is about choosing purpose over prestige, and letting go of goals that belong to who you used to be.โ€

Lunar Eclipse Release Ritual

Guided by Selene Tides, Lunar Cycles Guide

Lunar eclipses are the Moon's exhale, everything that's been building reaches a peak and then releases. This is powerful medicine for letting go. On the night of the lunar eclipse, gather your Moonstone, Amethyst, and a piece of Black Obsidian. You'll also need a small piece of paper and something to write with. Sit in a place where you can see the Moon (or feel its presence if it's cloudy, the energy is the same). Hold your Moonstone against your heart. Write down what you're ready to release. Be specific: not "my fear" but "my fear of being seen for who I really am." Name it clearly. As the eclipse reaches totality, tear the paper into small pieces. Place them in a fireproof dish and burn them safely, or bury them in earth. Hold your Amethyst and breathe deeply. The Black Obsidian stays under your pillow tonight. Dreams during a lunar eclipse carry messages about what's being cleared. Write them down in the morning.
